2021 Safety Standards & Guidelines

Sandwich Youth Lacrosse

Sandwich Youth Lacrosse will follow all state, local health, and CDC guidelines for compliance to ensure the safety of all participants.

Pre-practice and Game Screening

  • Players, coaches, officials, and spectators may not attend practices or games if they are isolated for illness or quarantined for exposure to infection.
  • Prior to attending practices or games check for normal temperature before going:
  • 100.4 or higher please stay home.
  • Players and coaches should not attend practices or games if they have any other symptoms of Covid-19 infection in the past 14 days or have been exposed to someone who has been ill in the last 14 days.
  • Upon arrival, the coach will ask each athlete if they are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19. If yes, they will be sent home and will need a written clearance from their healthcare provider to return to play.

Practice and Game Protocols

  • Facial coverings: A face mask that completely covers the nose and mouth is required. Only face coverings that secure with loops around a player’s ears are acceptable. Masks with exhalation valves or vents (including mesh masks) are not allowed. Participants must wear facial coverings at all times. Mask breaks may be taken for drinking and when needed for breathing comfort. Mask breaks may only be taken when 6ft of distance can be maintained. Coaches, officials, and spectators must also wear facial coverings at all times and maintain a social distance of 6 feet from all persons at all times.
  • Social Distancing: All individuals are responsible for maintaining social distancing of 6ft when possible. Coaches, officials, and spectators must maintain a social distance of 6 feet from all persons at all times. Spectators must practice social distancing and accept personal responsibility for public health guidelines. The number of spectators is determined in compliance with Mass EEA and local board of health guidelines.
  • Players should report to the field of practice/games ready to play in proper gear with a mask on.
  • Players and coaches are not permitted to exchange handshakes before, during, or following practices or competitions. No group celebrations are allowed during or after play.
  • Hand sanitizer, facial tissues, and facial coverings will be readily available for anyone who needs it.
  • A record will be kept of all individuals present at team activities, including but not limited to practices and competitions.

Capacity Limits

  • If an indoor or outdoor facility has a spectator viewing area that allows for at least six feet social distancing between spectators, then spectators are allowed for players under 21 years old. 

Equipment, Facilities & Personal Items

  • Participants should use their own equipment and will be instructed to wash and sanitize their equipment before and after all practices and games
  • Coaches will be the only ones permitted to handle cones, discs, goals, etc
  • Participants are required to have their own water bottle, towel, and personal hygiene products. Personal items should remain in the players' own bags. Bags should be placed 6ft apart during practices and games.
  • Hand washing sinks should have clean running water, soap, and paper towels. Water fountains for refilling bottles ONLY.

Organizers and Mitigation of Covid-19 Spread

  • An SYL COVID-19 safety officer has been assigned, Jessica Kiablick ( ) and will communicate policies organization-wide to coaches, parents, and players.
  • If a team member or coach contracts COVID-19 or has come into close contact with someone who has been diagnosed with the virus, please contact Jessica Kiablick as soon as possible
